Lizard Skins' grip expertise led them to anticipate players' desire for varied thickness and feel options in bat handles. Regrettably, neither bat manufacturers nor aftermarket grips had specified grip sizes. Consequently, Lizard Skins introduced the thickness category. The DSP bat grip initially launched in two thicknesses: 1.8 mm to align with average industry sizes and 1.1 mm for a thinner option. Post-testing, a group of MLB players requested an even thinner grip, retaining the same gripping properties without increasing handle thickness. The 0.5 mm thickness was developed to cater to the high-performance needs of top athletes. All three thicknesses remain popular today, catering to diverse preferences and skill levels.
